Greektown gets its name from its population of those with Greek heritage. Starting out where the University of Illinois is located now, the neighborhood was displaced in the 1960's to what is known as Greektown today.  The neighborhood is popular for the excellent Greek cuisine that can be found there, and many restaurants are known across the country for being an excellent source of gyros and other Greek favorites. Residents also enjoy proximity to downtown Chicago and other great city attractions including the United Center where the Bulls and Blackhawks play.
